Chinese classics form a vast and profound ocean of wisdom, embodying the intellectual achievements and cultural spirit of the Chinese nation over thousands of years. For the past 14 years, I have been engaged in translation and research, rendering a number of major Chinese classics into Persian, including Huangdi Neijing (Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor), The Analects of Confucius, Tao Te Ching, Mencius, The Great Learning, and The Doctrine of the Mean. Throughout this enduring endeavor, I have remained dedicated to introducing China's fine traditional culture to Persian readers.
During this process, I also participated in translating and proofreading the classical Chinese quotations in the Persian edition of Classics Quoted by Xi Jinping. The translation and international dissemination of this book vividly demonstrate the contemporary relevance of China's classical heritage. Bringing together a large number of quotations from Chinese classics cited in President Xi Jinping's speeches and articles, the book offers valuable insight into his philosophy of governance. Since its publication, it has attracted global attention and been translated into more than 10 languages, including English, French, Arabic, Persian and Turkish.
This experience prompted me to reflect on how ancient Chinese classics might help contemporary Iranian readers better understand today's China. This, in turn, led me to observe that in recent years, both the diplomatic speeches of Chinese leaders and the statements delivered at the regular press conferences of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs have frequently drawn on classical Chinese sources. From this, I have come to see a broader point: The accurate translation of China's traditional culture is not only a vital gateway for overseas readers to appreciate its enduring wisdom, but also an essential lens through which to understand contemporary China's governance philosophy and diplomatic thinking.
