China News Release: Have you ever been to China before? Please share some interesting stories about you and China or Chinese culture.
Prof. Dr. Anabel Ternes von Hattburg: Yes, I've been to China many times. My fascination with the country began in early childhood. I remember traveling to Beijing with my father during a Christmas in the 1980s. As a German Communist deeply passionate about Chinese culture and traditions, he often brought Chinese books back home. The very first Chinese book I owned — written entirely in Chinese — was about a brave boy who trekked hundreds of kilometers along the Great Wall of China to deliver a precious gift to his grandmother. Even though I couldn't read the text, I studied every picture with deep fascination.
