Zunyi Meeting

On January 15, 2025, a commemorative conference marking the 90th anniversary of the Zunyi Meeting, a crucial turning point during the Long March (1934–1936) that marked the maturity of the Communist Party of China (CPC), was held in Zunyi, southwest China's Guizhou Province.

On the same day, the large-scale interactive virtual reality (VR) immersive experience drama Follow Me, themed around the Long March, was officially launched at the 1935 Square of the Zunyi Meeting Memorial Hall. The production, guided by the Publicity Department of the CPC Zunyi Municipal Committee and supported by the State Key Laboratory of Virtual Reality Technology and Systems, employs VR interactive technology to provide an immersive experience. Visitors can deeply engage with the historical events surrounding the Zunyi Meeting and the Red Army's Long March. The detailed historical materials, combined with the strong sense of immersion, make the experience both educational and impactful.

During his inspection tour in Guizhou Province in February 2021, President Xi Jinping called on Party members to develop a deeper understanding of the Party's original aspiration and founding mission from the spirit of the Long March and the spirit of the Zunyi Meeting, which will continue to inspire the journey of the "Long March" in the new era.

At No. 96 Ziyin Road in Zunyi, a city nestled between lush hills in Guizhou Province, stands a building that elegantly blends Chinese and Western architectural styles. Between January 15 and 17, 1935, during the Long March, the renowned Zunyi Meeting was held here, a landmark event in the history of the CPC as it largely determined the fate of the Party at a critical juncture for its survival.

The Zunyi Meeting's distinct features, including the establishment of the correct CPC Central Committee leadership, as well as innovative formulation and implementation of strategies that suited the Chinese revolution's characteristics, still have significance today.

The spirit of the Zunyi Meeting, with its enduring relevance, serves as a reminder that on the path of progress, to overcome various risks and challenges, we must seek truth from facts, uphold the truth, adapt scientifically, proactively seek change, persist in our goals, and move forward with courage. Every individual must navigate their own "Long March" in the new era.

The year 2025 marks the 90th anniversary of both the Zunyi Meeting and the victory of the Central Red Army's Long March. Zunyi played a crucial role in this historic journey. The Central Red Army not only captured Loushan Pass and Zunyi City — achieving a long-awaited victory — but also gained valuable time to convene the Zunyi Meeting. The meeting ultimately established Mao Zedong (1893–1976) as the leader of the Red Army and the CPC Central Committee. It also began the establishment of the correct Marxist line, represented by Mao Zedong, in the CPC Central Committee, and the formation of the CPC's first generation of central collective leadership, with Mao Zedong at the core.
