This year marks the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland. With closer exchanges and cooperation between Macao and the Chinese mainland, patriotism and love for Macao have evolved from a folk sentiment into a core societal value, holding a dominant position in Macao society.

Recently, China News Release interviewed Huang Guangyu, founder of Red Journal. He stated that the original intention of founding the magazine was to enable the people of Macao to better understand and experience the history and development of their motherland. Looking forward, he plans to continue leveraging the promotional advantages of Red Journal, based in Macao, to inherit and promote the spirit of patriotism, use innovative ideas to foster the diverse cultural development of Macao, and contribute to polishing Macao's "golden business card."

Duty and inheritance

Huang was born into a military family. As he grew up, he not only inherited the red genes deeply rooted in his parents' blood but also hoped to follow in their footsteps by giving back to society through public welfare efforts.

In 2021, Huang moved to live and work in Macao. Reflecting on his feelings when he first arrived three years ago, he described his impressions in two words: warmth and humanity.

He appreciated the long and tumultuous history and the unique cultural blend found in Macao's intricate streets and alleys. For example, the A-Ma Temple, a temple dedicated to the sea goddess Mazu dating back to 1488, standing at the highest point in Macao, is bustling with incense, while the Portuguese-style former residence of Communist General Ye Ting (1896–1946) still preserves many original relics of the Ye family. Meanwhile, the Mandarin's House, a former residence of Zheng Guanying (1842–1922), a well-known scholar of the 19th century, is a treasure of Chinese and Western architecture. During his early days in Macao, Huang found himself immersed in this deep history.
