China and Brazil established diplomatic relations in 1974. As "like-minded good friends and good partners walking hand in hand," the two countries have since been working hard to advance their own development and revitalization, playing significant roles in world peace, stability and prosperity. Recently, China News Release conducted an exclusive interview with José Reinaldo Carvalho, a member of the Central Committee and Politburo of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB), and chairman of the Brazilian Center for Solidarity With the Peoples and Struggle for Peace. Mr. José Reinaldo Carvalho answered our questions as to "how to understand the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC)" and "how to evaluate the China-Brazil relationship in the new era."
China News Release: When did you first visit China? What were your impressions, and how did your connection to China begin?
José Reinaldo Carvalho: I made my first visit to China in the spring of 2000 as a member of a PCdoB delegation. At that time, I was the secretary of the Politics and International Relations of the PCdoB. Over the following two years, I led two more delegations to China in the same capacity. In 2017, I led a multi-party delegation consisting of the PCdoB, the Workers' Party, and the Democratic Labor Party on my fourth visit to China. More recently, from 2023 to 2024, I participated in the World Socialism Forums organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, where I had the opportunity to communicate and engage in discussions with Communist Party leaders from various participating countries. During these visits, I gained deep insights into the remarkable achievements of the Chinese nation through conversations with central and local leaders of the CPC, workers from various fields, and ordinary Chinese citizens. These experiences were incredibly rewarding for me.
