In the Kunqu Opera Red Mud Pass, Gu Haohao plays Dongfang Xiu, wife of the magistrate of the Red Mud Pass, who falls in love with a general of the rebel army in the battlefield.

At the U.N. headquarters in Vienna on May 8, 2024, a special performance, including various art forms such as Beijing Opera, Kunqu Opera, Yue Opera, Shanghai Opera, ballet, opera and acrobatics was held, as part of a series of celebratory events marking the U.N. Chinese Language Day. The U.N. observes the Chinese Language Day on April 20 annually to promote multilingualism, cultural diversity, and the use of Chinese as one of the organization's six official languages. These traditional operas showcased the breadth and depth of Chinese culture and its long history, while modern drama exuded the vitality of a new era, pushing the 2024 U.N. Chinese Language Day celebrations to its climax.

After the performance, I gave a lecture on Kunqu Opera, hoping to increase the exposure of this famed intangible cultural heritage to the audience. Following the lecture, some audience members joined me for a photo.
