Biosphere reserves can help promote innovation and global dialogue in sustainable development. As a member of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the island of Principe in the Gulf of Guinea has a small population of just over 10,000 and enjoys very limited resources. However, people there have free access to the internet, a fact that makes it possible for people there to stay connected with the world at any time.
