The civilizations of France and China are humanity's most creative treasures, whether viewed realistically or historically. And French friends serve as an important bridge through which we can gain insights into French civilization. I, as a Chinese national, have undeniably gained abundant cultural fruits from the many acquaintances I have made in France throughout my 20-year sojourn there. In my articles, I have shared these fruits with my fellow Chinese. Conversely, I have also relayed objective and positive information about China to my French friends, giving them a picture about the real China. In this way, we have promoted mutual knowledge and understanding, as well as strengthened our friendships and alliances, which have deeper connotations of cultural exchange.

Regular readers of my reports on France may have observed that, in the second decade of my stay in France, I started talking more about China to France and the world! During that period, we started focusing more on building cultural confidence. To make our voices heard and understood, I began writing articles for the French media introducing China. In addition to discussing China in newspapers, TV and radio, I authored and published a French book titled Les Chinois sont des hommes comme les autres (The Chinese Are People Like the Others) to expound on the identity, origin, and aspirations of the Chinese people.
