Over the past years, China has seen stronger protection of intellectual property rights (IPR) and faster development of innovation, and a series of steps on further protection of IPR have also been accelerated in various aspects. In 2023, China's IPR protection made steady progress.
Quantity and quality of intellectual property creation in 2023
A total of 921,000 invention patents were authorized, up 15.3% year on year.
About 4.38 million trademarks were approved for registration, 13 geographical indication (GI) products were recognized, and 201 collective trademarks and certification trademarks were approved for registration as GIs.
China registered 11,000 integrated circuit layout designs.
The number of copyright registrations for works and computer software reached 6.43 million and 2.5 million, respectively, an increase of 42.3% and 36% year on year.
