China intensified its land greening efforts in 2023, planting nearly 4 million hectares of trees, as reported by the National Greening Commission on March 12, 2024.

Afforestation

In 2023, China restored 4.38 million hectares of degraded grassland and treated 1.91 million hectares of sandy and stony land.

China's online greening platforms hosted over 24,000 activities last year, attracting nearly 440 million visits, and facilitated the establishment of over 1,500 tree-planting bases.

An additional 63,000 square km of soil erosion control area were added, and 172 million hectares of natural forests were protected.
