The past decade saw China's annual export of TV dramas make up more than 70% of the total export of the audiovisual programs produced in China, and they have been exported to 200-plus countries and regions. This makes China a major supplier and participant in the international TV drama industry.

Thematic TV dramas 

In recent years, China has produced a number of thematic TV dramas, including Be Together, Mining Town, Medal of the Republic, Faith Makes Great, and The Story of Xing Fu, which depict the historical evolution, prevailing tendencies, and current state of affairs in China. Through commercial distribution or collaboration, they have been aired via international mainstream media, garnering immense popularity and receiving a positive international response.

Be Together, a reality-based TV drama on China's battle against COVID-19, was aired in 2020 in over 50 countries and regions, exhibiting China's remarkable anti-epidemic struggle against COVID-19. It was awarded the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Prize in 2021 and earned a sizable profit from international distribution. The popular Chinese TV drama Mining Town, which tackles poverty alleviation, garnered attention from local political dignitaries and media in 2021 after being translated into over 20 languages and broadcast by mainstream TV platforms in more than 50 countries and regions in Southeast Asia, Africa, Arabia and Latin America. Medal of the Republic and Faith Makes Great, which are centered around the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, have been broadcast in Japan and effectively distributed overseas. 

In 2022, The Story of Xing Fu, a TV drama themed on rural revitalization that explores the tension between the rule of law and emotion, was simultaneously released in 193 countries and regions. It received an 8.0 rating on My Drama List, a reputable website that rates international films and TV shows, and was nominated for the Best Series Drama at the 2023 Seoul International Drama Awards.
