Mohe is located in the Heilongjiang Province in northeast China, bordering Russia, and is the northernmost city in the country. Winter in the city begins in early mid-October and lasts until late April, and average temperatures stay below freezing for about seven months of the year. This makes Mohe "China's Arctic Town."
