In recent years, China's new energy vehicle market has entered a phase of rapid growth. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), in 2022, the production and sales volume of China's new energy vehicles totaled 7,058,000 and 6,887,000, marking an increase of 96.9% and 93.4%, respectively. In addition, the market share reached 25.6%. From January to October of 2023, the production and sales volume of China's new energy vehicles totaled 7,352,000 and 7,280,000, reflecting growth rates of 33.9% and 37.8%, respectively, and the market share reached 30.4%.
China's new energy vehicle initiative started in earnest in 2009. In February that year, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly organized a pilot demonstration and promotion meeting for energy conservation and new energy vehicles in Beijing. In the decade that followed, China's new energy vehicle market has been soaring.
