As the world gears up for the highly anticipated third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, scheduled to be held from October 17 to 18, 2023, in Beijing, it is an opportune moment to reflect upon the multifaceted significance of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The world is passing through challenging times when on the one hand, global issues like climate change, technological innovation, growing inequality, inflation and debt, and geopolitical conflicts are demanding collective action on the part of the international community; on the other hand, we find growing polarization which is hindering collaboration to address these pressing challenges.

The BRI assumes special significance in the backdrop of these challenges. It is an important initiative to foster connectivity and collaboration in order to help member countries uplift their economies by taking full advantage of China's development experiences and capabilities.
