According to the 2022 Statistical Bulletin on Educational Spending released by the Ministry of Education on July 5, all sectors of education witnessed notable progress, with total student numbers reaching 293 million. There were a total of 518,500 schools and 18.8 million full-time teachers across the country.

Pre-school education

There were 289,200 kindergartens across the country, including 245,700 affordable kindergartens, accounting for 84.96% of kindergartens nationwide.

Compulsory education

There were 201,600 compulsory education schools nationwide, with 159 million students and 10.65 million full-time teachers. The retention rate for students in the nine-year compulsory education system hit 95.5% in 2022.
