In mid-May 2023, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon paid an official visit to China. Meetings and in-depth exchanges of views were held with the top political leadership of China. President Rahmon was greeted as a true friend of the Chinese people. Particularly warm, friendly and candid was the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which took place in Xi'an, one of the ancient capitals of China. Thus, the inextricable historical connection between the peoples of the two neighboring countries, rooted in the history of the great Silk Road, was emphasized.
Tajikistan-China relations not only have deep historical roots, but also enjoy a solid political foundation, rich content of cooperation and broad public support in both countries. The Xi'an meeting between the leaders of the two countries was the 15th in the last decade (2013–2023). In the entire 30-year history of bilateral relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the People's Republic of China, this period is characterized by the most intense and versatile political dialogues. The high-level interaction between the heads of state is a stimulating example for government members. Regular meetings and consultations are held through the two countries' foreign ministries, law enforcement agencies, defense departments, ministries of economy, education and culture, legislative bodies and friendship societies, as well as cities and regions, among which sister city ties have been established and are developing. An increasingly significant role in the bilateral relations is played by the Tajikistan-China Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as its subcommission, "Tajikistan-Xinjiang," established in 2010.
