Yang Gensi (1922–1950)
Editor's Note: The year 2023 marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950–1953). Over 300,000 heroes, including Yang Gensi (1922–1950), Huang Jiguang (1931–1952) and Qiu Shaoyun (1926–1952), and nearly 6,000 meritorious collectives distinguished themselves by their courage and fortitude during the war. They sacrificed themselves for the peace of the peoples of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) founded in 1948 and of the newborn People's Republic of China (PRC). On October 23, 2020, Chinese President Xi Jinping made a speech at a meeting marking the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteers' entering the DPRK to fight the war. He emphasized: "In the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, the heroic CPV forged a great spirit ... This spirit has transcended time and space to remain relevant even today, and it will continue to be passed on from one generation to the next long into the future."
