Kubuqi International Desert Forum
The Kubuqi International Desert Forum (KIDF) is the only large international forum in the world that is dedicated to promoting global desertification control and green economic development. Since its inception in 2007, this biennial forum, created by China, has been held successfully on eight occasions. At the 11th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) held in Namibia in September 2013, the KIDF was recognized in the conference report as a major instrument and platform for achieving the strategic goals of the UNCCD. In February 2014, the Chinese government approved the KIDF as a major national institutional forum in the area of foreign affairs.
The ninth Kubuqi International Desert Forum will be held at the Seven-Star Lakes scenic site near the Kubuqi Desert, the permanent site of the forum, in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from August 25–27.
