The electric energy, vital for the well-being of nations and their people, has always been an important field for international collaboration. Over the last few years, the China Huaneng Group (CHNG) has continually made Herculean efforts to expand its international business and cooperation in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Constructing power plants
The foreign assets of the CHNG are dispersed mainly in six countries: Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Myanmar, Cambodia and Pakistan. Its energy systems include coal, natural gas, hydroelectricity and battery storage. The CHNG also offers technical services and tech exports in a score of foreign countries and regions. It has constructed the Lower Sesan II Hydropower Station in Cambodia, the largest of its kind in the country. The dam, which is 6,500 meters long, is Asia's longest dam. It has also built the Shweli River Hydropower Station in Myanmar; the Sahiwal Power Plant in Pakistan, the first large-scale energy source project along the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor; and the Minety Battery Storage Plant in the United Kingdom, Europe's largest battery energy storage project. It also owns one-fifth of Singapore's power market share via the acquisition and operation of the Tuas Power Generation Pte Ltd. As of the end of 2022, the foreign projects that the CHNG participates in and manages have a capacity of 8.94 million kilowatts.
