Tourism Market Rebounds During Holiday Period
China's tourism market has witnessed its best business performance in three years during the three-day May Day holiday in 2023. The number of domestic trips reached 274 million, up 70.83% year on year and 119.09% over the same period in 2019. This generated 148.06 billion yuan (21.44 billion U.S. dollars) in tourism revenue, up 128.90% year on year and 100.66% over the same period in 2019.
Measures taken to stimulate market
May 19 is the Tourism Day in China. To stimulate the cultural and tourism consumption market, many regions have adopted measures to promote tourism. For example, Jiangsu Province has issued 170 million yuan in vouchers and digital red packets worth a total of 55 million yuan.
Cross-regional tourism
From April 28 to May 3, 243 national nighttime cultural and tourism clusters attracted a total of 77.69 million nighttime visitors, about 63,900 visitors per night in each cluster, an increase of 114.5% over the same period in 2022.
Nighttime visitors surpassed 1 million in many tourism clusters, including the West Nanjing Road in Jing'an District of Shanghai, the Qinhuai River–Confucius Temple area in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, the Taishan Xiucheng Park in Tai'an, Shandong Province, during the May Day holiday.
