Visitors view high-definition copies of classical Chinese paintings during an exhibition that showcases the achievements in compiling A Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings at the National Museum of China (NMC) in Beijing.

A Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings (hereinafter referred to as the Comprehensive Collection) is a project that has gone on for approximately 17 years, aimed at a comprehensive compilation of ancient Chinese paintings. As a key state-level cultural project, it features an impressive scale, covers the entirety of Chinese history, and involves Chinese and foreign museums and other cultural institutions. The Comprehensive Collection includes replicas, in various forms, of a total of 12,405 Chinese paintings (sets) on paper, silk (including brocade and damask), linen and other materials from 263 museums and other cultural institutions at home and abroad. The compilation covers the majority of the extant Chinese paintings classified as "national treasures," with the prints making up 226 books in 60 volumes so far. If stacked up, they would reach four stories in height.
