On March 5, 2023, the First Session of the 14th National People's Congress opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. In his Government Work Report, Premier Li Keqiang reviewed the government work in 2022 and the past five years and made proposals on the government work this year.

Absolute poverty ended

Some 100 million poverty-stricken rural people escaped poverty, and 832 impoverished counties were lifted out of poverty.

More than 9.6 million people were relocated from inhospitable areas.

New economic development 

China's gross domestic product (GDP) increased to 121 trillion yuan, registering an annual growth rate of 5.2%over the past five years. 

Over the past decade, GDP has increased by almost 70 trillion yuan at an annual rate of 6.2%. 

Government revenue increased to 20.4 trillion yuan.

Annual grain output remained steady at over 650 million tonnes for many consecutive years.

The value-added of the industry totaled over 40 trillion yuan.

Average yearly urban employee growth hit more than 12.7 million.

Foreign exchange reserves remained stable at over 3 trillion U.S. dollars.
