On February 21, 2023, China issued The Global Security Initiative Concept Paper, a major step forward towards implementing the Global Security Initiative (GSI).
The GSI was proposed by President Xi Jinping on April 21, 2022, when he delivered a keynote speech via video at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2022.
Xi said that humanity is an indivisible security community and it is important that we stay committed to the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security and work together to maintain world peace and security.
The GSI Concept Paper has demonstrated China's sense of responsibility for safeguarding world peace and firm resolve to defend global security. It expounds the core ideas and principles of the GSI, and identifies the priorities, platforms and mechanisms of cooperation. Meanwhile, China has been putting consistent effort into diplomatic work for peace and tranquility in the Middle East and peaceful settlement of the Ukraine crisis, attracting worldwide attention.
