As a literary writer, my criterion for classics lies in one word: challenge. In my own pantheon are works and writers that challenge my reading and writing. After a long time of writing, every writer naturally has their own yardstick. To me, writers and works that are hard to catch up or surpass over three to five years, more than 10 years, or even a lifetime, are classics. Writers and works that I don't like and will never follow are also classics, even though I know about their greatness and find it difficult to reach their level despite doing my best. At a personal level, a challenge is relative, and so are classics. Therefore, my standard for classic changes over time at a rapid, volatile, unpredictable and even turbulent pace.
