On the evening of November 29, 2022, the 17th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was held in Rabat, capital of Morocco, and passed a resolution to include the item "Traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China" in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Humanity. So far, China has 43 items on the intangible cultural heritage list, ranking first in the world.

The traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China consist of knowledge, skills and practices related to the management of tea plantations, picking of tea leaves, manual processing, drinking, and sharing of tea. This heritage item involves 44 registered national-level intangible cultural heritage entries from 15 provincial-level administrative divisions in China, namely 38 tea-making skills entries, one refreshments-making skills entry and five tea-related folk customs entries.
