"Amid the blasts of firecrackers the old year is over." Fireworks light up a new year, also a new chapter of my stories in China. As always, I look forward with expectation toward the new chapter, whatever it will be. Hello, Chapter XIII, my 13th year in China.

Wondering what the new chapter would hold, I couldn't help but flip back to Chapter I which, though far off, reminds me of how excited I was when I first set foot on Chinese land. I was 18 back then, naive yet determined. I spoke terrible Chinese, which I managed to learn by myself, and was on my way to campus life.

Thus I began my life at Capital Medical University (CMU). Although campus life can be tense, it was also full of fun. I learned the school's motto on the first day, "Professionalism and Ethics." As a newcomer, I was a little muddled about the specifics but clear that we would learn about a doctor's responsibility. Nine years of campus life taught me its true meaning — to be a good doctor and a decent man. Today, I'm still on my way to this goal, and I keep telling myself not to fail my studies.

CMU taught me about China's medical expertise, advanced technologies, and how the major hospitals in Beijing work. Those years stand as witnesses to the rapid progress I made. The daily classes, work, research and communication, all built up my adaptability, ambition, sense of responsibility, and professional knowledge. It's hard to find a word to describe how grateful I am to CMU. It gave me the most incredible help and supported me from my humble beginnings in Chapter I. My gratitude will be the greatest push behind me for the rest of my life.
