Significant Achievements Made in China's Biodiversity Conservation

From December 7 to 20, 2022, the second phase of the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) was held in Montreal, Canada. Before the conference, the Xinhua News Agency published an article to comprehensively demonstrate the remarkable progress made by China in upgrading biodiversity conservation.

Over 800,000, 64, 13

China has built or restored more than 800,000 hectares of wetlands in the past decades. There are 64 important international wetlands in China, including 13 "International Wetland Cities," more than any other countries in the world.

90%, 74%, 112, over 300

At present, 90% of China's terrestrial ecosystem types and 74% of wildlife under national key protection have been effectively protected, and 112 unique, rare and endangered wild animals and plants have returned to the wild. The wild populations of over 300 rare and endangered wild animals and plants are steadily increasing.
