The world saw a successful international import expo in Shanghai in early November 2022. It was the fifth edition of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), hailed as another fruitful event as the value of intended deals reached during the six-day expo increased 3.9% from the previous year to 73.52 billion U.S. dollars.
The CIIE, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai municipal government, is hosted by the China International Import Expo Bureau and the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Shanghai). Held once a year, it is the world's first national-level expo with the theme of import. The sixth CIIE will be held from November 5 to 10, 2023.
With extensive participation of the international community, the expo aims to provide a platform for global procurement, investment promotion, people-to-people exchanges and open cooperation, and includes three major sections: country exhibition, business exhibition and Hongqiao International Economic Forum (shortened as Hongqiao Forum).
The country exhibition is open to all interested countries, including the least developed ones, to exploit the platform to introduce their development achievements, profitable industries, cultural tourism, representative enterprises and the like to present their national image. Over the past five years, more than 130 countries, regions and international organizations have participated in this section.
The business exhibition is staged for overseas enterprises to access the Chinese market. It puts on world-class, comprehensive displays of products, technologies and services in six categories: food and agricultural products, automobiles, technical equipment, consumer goods, medical equipment and healthcare, and service trade.
