On December 20, 2022, China released the 10 most popular Chinese buzzwords in 2022. Having been held for 17 consecutive years, the buzzword selection is an annual event jointly launched by the National Language Resources Monitoring and Research Center, the Commercial Press,and others.

The 10 most popular Chinese buzzwords in 2022 are as follows: the Party's 20th National Congress (党的二十大), Chinese path to modernization (中国式现代化), whole-process people's democracy (全过程人民民主), the Chinese people's food supply has remained firmly in their own hands (端稳中国饭碗), digital economy (数字经济), historic gathering in space (太空会师), together for a shared future (一起向未来), my eyes are like rulers (我的眼睛就是尺), digital pickled vegetables (电子榨菜) and the Russia-Ukraine conflict (俄乌冲突).

In this edition, China News Release set a new section called "Keywords," where we will on a monthly basis select a series of keywords from the latest news and give brief explanation of them in both English and Chinese.
