China's Achievements in Implementing Ramsar Convention on Wetlands for 30 Years

From November 5 to 13, 2022, the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP14) was held simultaneously at the main venue in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, and the sub-venue in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the first time that such a meeting was held in China. On the morning of November 6, an achievement exhibition for the 30th anniversary of China's implementation of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands was unveiled in Wuhan.

According to the third national land survey and the 2020 national land change survey, China now boasts about 56.35 million hectares of wetlands, or 4% of the world's total.

With 4% of the world's wetlands, China has met the diverse demands of its population, or one-fifth of the world's total, in wetland production, living, ecology and culture.

China has established 97 systems concerning wetlands at the national and provincial levels, forming a preliminary institutional system for wetland protection.
