On November 7, 2022, China's State Council Information Office published a white paper entitled Jointly Build a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace. The white paper fully described China's achievements in Internet development and governance practices since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, introduced China's vision, actions and contributions of enhancing international exchanges and cooperation in cyberspace and promoting the building of a community with a shared future in cyberspace, and put forward China's proposal of building a closer community with a shared future in cyberspace.

As of 2021, the value of the digital economy in China had reached 45.5 trillion yuan, accounting for 39.8% of the gross domestic product, and China's digital economy has ranked second worldwide for many years.

By June 2022, there were 1.05 billion netizens in China, and the Internet penetration rate had risen to 74.4%.

In 2021, China's online retail sales stood at 10.8 trillion yuan, up 12% year on year and accounting for 24.5% of the total retail sales of consumer goods.
