Nanjing and York: 'Great Distance Cannot Separate Us'

Nanjing has been known as the capital city of six dynasties and a metropolis of 10 regimes. Today, Nanjing, a famous city of science and education in China, has earned the prestigious honor of UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) City of Literature.

York, a vibrant, exciting, festival city with world-class visitor attractions, heritage and culture, has been an important political, cultural, religious and trade center since the age of the Roman Empire (27 BCE–395 CE). Its rich historical sites draw many visitors, second in volume only to London, in all of the U.K. York was the first city in the U.K. to be bestowed with the honor of UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts.

In May 2016, Nanjing and York began a friendly and cooperative relationship. Since then, various cultural exchanges have been conducted between the two cities, building a bridge of people-to-people ties.
