China and Serbia are geographically far apart, but they have maintained traditional friendly relations with a special brotherly bond. Since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership in 2016, the relationship between the two countries has maintained a vigorous development momentum, and has become a benchmark for mutually beneficial cooperation, a model for jointly building the Belt and Road and a model for China-CEEC cooperation. On February 5, 2022, when meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who was in China for the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, Chinese President Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Serbia are "ironclad friends," noting the two countries share a high level of political mutual trust and that the bilateral relationship has endured many challenges and become a model for international ties. Lately, China News Release had an exclusive interview with Živadin Jovanović, an expert on Serbian international affairs, who served as minister of foreign affairs of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) between 1998 and 2000.
