On April 13, 2018, President Xi Jinping attended a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the Hainan Special Economic Zone and delivered a major speech, and Hainan has since embarked on a great new journey of deepening reform and opening-up in all respects.

Over the past four years, construction on the Hainan free trade port kicked off smoothly and went in full swing with significant progress. In April this year, President Xi Jinping visited Hainan again and delivered a major speech, giving the province a new and more important historical mission. President Xi Jinping stated that since Hainan was made a province and a special economic zone 30 years ago, it has adhered to reform and broken through China's traditional economic system. It has developed from a frontier island into an important window on China's reform and opening-up and made remarkable achievements in economic and social development. The new context, new tasks, new challenges have given the special economic zone a new historical mission. From a new historical starting point, Hainan has sped up the pace of deepening reform and opening-up and realized rapid and steady high-quality development.
