When in bloom, she chose to be with hardships and mud, and took root in the mountain villages to repay her hometown. On the early morning of June 17, 2019, in a sudden flash flood, her life was forever freeze-framed at the age of 30. She is Huang Wenxiu, winner of the July 1 Medal and the former village Party chief of Baini Village, Xinhua Township, Leye County, Baise City, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
Determined to be one who 'comes back' after 'going out'
Born in Baise, grew up in Baise, left Baise to pursue her study, and returned to Baise to build her hometown ... If Huang's life trajectory is described as a "circle," her hometown Baise Village is the "center of the circle" that she cherished throughout her life.
Huang Wenxiu's hometown, located in a remote mountainous area in Tianyang County, Baise City, features extremely harsh natural conditions, and her family could only rely on growing corn and sugarcane for a living. Huang Wenxiu, born to a poor family, got admitted to university and completed her study step by step by relying on the country's student aid policy. People who know Huang Wenxiu say that she was a person with a grateful heart. During her college education, she was eager to approach the Party organization, passed the test with excellent performance, and became a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) as she wished.
In 2016, Huang Wenxiu came to a crossroads of life when she graduated from Beijing Normal University with a master's degree. When her classmates were busy going abroad or trying to find a job in Beijing, Huang resolutely chose to go back to her hometown and work in the Publicity Department of Baise Municipal Party Committee as a selected graduate. In 2017, she was dispatched to serve as the deputy secretary of the Party Committee in Naman Township, Tianyang County, an area of rocky desertification; upon expiration of the tenure, she volunteered to become the village Party chief of Baini Village, where the conditions were even harsher.
