According to the Annual Report on Cardiovascular Health and Diseases in China (2020), the number of people with cardiovascular diseases in China stands at around 330 million, and about 3 out of every 1,000 people die from the diseases every year. Acute and severe diseases represented by acute myocardial infarction is the main cause of death. It is predicted that the number of patients with myocardial infarction in China will increase to 22.6 million by 2030, which presents a daunting challenge to the building of medical insurance system and social development. Recently, Huo Yong, executive chairman of the China Alliance of Chest Pain Centers, director of National Quality Control Center for Coronary Heart Disease Intervention and professor of Department of Cardiology of Peking University First Hospital, was interviewed by the journal of China News Release about building a new prevention and treatment system of cardiovascular diseases.
Acute myocardial infarction is one of the acute and serious diseases with the highest morbidity and mortality rate. Dredging blood vessels is the key to saving the life of patients with acute myocardial infarction. According to the international guideline, the door-to-balloon (D2B) time should be within 90 minutes. But the results of a multicenter registry study in China show that the average D2B time for emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in hospitals of Beijing is 132 minutes, and only 22% of patients receive PCI in less than 90 minutes.
