As a soldier, she swings into action upon receiving orders, demonstrating the true nature of intrepid warriors. As a Party member, she works at the forefront in times of crisis, becoming a pioneering and exemplary role model. As an academician, she led the development of the world's first COVID-19 vaccine that has entered Phase II trials, demonstrating China's scientific and technological prowess. She shows herself as a vivid example of struggle through real actions.

Chen Wei has made significant results in biohazard prevention and control research, and has pulled off emergency tasks such as earthquake relief and Olympic security. When the COVID-19 epidemic broke out, she went to Wuhan without delay under an order to make scientific breakthroughs and provide COVID response guidance. She has made major achievements in basic research, research and development (R&D) of vaccine and protective drugs as a major contribution to the COVID response. In August 2020, she was awarded the national honorary title — "The People's Hero."

Chen was performing a mission when she learned that she was awarded the "The People's Hero" title. "This is the mission of the soldiers. This honor belongs to all the people of the entire military working on the front line of scientific research on COVID response," said Chen.

"Over the years," Chen said, "I have always believed that if my career can meet the country's needs, I will have great scope for development, and my personal value will be maximized. Sticking to the goal unswervingly is shared by all successful people, but what can be changed is only the method. If a person focuses on a research area for over 20 years, he/she is bound to succeed, as long as the direction is correct and the methods are appropriate." Chen has led her team to build the safety net of biosafety for the country and the people through tireless researches.
